Lydia Bakker

Lydia Bakker (Amsterdam 1950), as a child gave evidence of an artistic talent she has developed largely on her own. Although she led, as a mother of three children and as a teacher in primary education a busy life, she has always been drawing and painting. She illustrated the journal Jonas and several book publications of the Foundation Curriculum Development. She also taught drawing and painting to groups of children and adults.

Lydia Bakker paints portraits, dreams, fairy tales, and "Biographical tableaux", which are still lifes of meaningful objects, precious memories, sometimes of a deceased person. Her work is idealistic and religious. Some portraits get the value of an icon, a presence. They express the desire for eternity, to an image not destroy that holds perfection.
