Nella Montfoort

Her fascination for the mystery and contradictions between love and hate, good and bad, mystic and erotic, is a key to all of her themes:" Life as a fascinating theatre". In the uncommonness finds Nella the enchanting atmosphere of another world: her world.

Nella Montfoort (Dordrecht 1948) studied at the Royal Academy for Arts and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch, Holland. During her studies, in 1974, she received the Royal Price for Free Arts.

Since 1979 she lives and works in Amsterdam.

 

She regularly has exhibitions of her work in Holland and abroad. Recently in Argentina: in El Museo Provincial de Artes in Santa Rosa, La Pampa and in Lima, Peru, with the DINA4 project.

Her work is sold to various collections like to The Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, The Royal Leather and Shoes Museum in Waalwjjk. and private collections in Holland, Spain, France, Greece, Great Brittan and the U.S.A.

 

Nella works mostly with oil on canvas. She also makes works on paper: drawings, mixed media and etchings and small painted objects. Next to painting, she always used other disciplines, like film, photography, theater performances and her great passion: dance (flamenco and tango).

The dance is a source of inspiration, and therefore regularly dancing shoes appear in her work.
